100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War

Today the LMS-Patriot Project is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War. The charitable Project is building a new 'Patriot' class steam memorial engine - 'The Unknown Warrior' - which is dedicated to the fallen from The Great War and all subsequent wars.

New Steam Memorial Engine ‘The Unknown Warrior’ to be exhibited at The Great Dorset Steam Fair

The LMS-Patriot Project, the charitable group who are building a new steam memorial engine ‘The Unknown Warrior’ will be exhibiting the partially complete locomotive at The Great Dorset Steam Fair from 27th – 31st August.

This year marks 100 years since the outbreak of The Great War in 1914. To commemorate this anniversary, The Great Dorset Steam Fair will have a number of special exhibitions, including steam engines, trucks, motorcycles, cars and military vehicles that were used in the war effort in Britain and France.  Central to the centenary anniversary exhibition, will be the new steam locomotive ‘The Unknown Warrior’ which is currently under construction. 

See 'The Unknown Warrior' at Tyseley Summer Open Weekend

Visitors to Tyseley Summer Open Weekend on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July will be able to see the latest progress with 'The Unknown Warrior'. The new Patriot will be making its first public appearance since the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, last November.

'Patriot Plaice Special' at the Llangollen Railway

Come onboard for a special fundraising fish and chip evening dining train - 'The Patriot Plaice' - to help raise funds for the new National Memorial Engine - 'The Unknown Warrior' which is being assembled at the Llangollen Railway.

Steam hauled special private train with round trip along the Dee Valley to Carrog and local chip shop meal for £17 per person. The meal will be served at your seat just after leaving Llangollen in beautifully restored 1950s carriages.

There will also be real ale, wine and soft drinks available on board our specially chartered train which departs Llangollen Station at 6:30pm.

‘Rails and Remembrance’ Exhibition Launched at the People’s History Museum, Manchester

The LMS-Patriot Project launched an exhibition – titled ‘Rails and Remembrance’, at the People’s History Museum in Manchester on 3rd May. The Project has received Heritage Lottery Funding to stage the exhibition.

The exhibition which initially runs from 3rd May to 15th June in the Community Gallery at the People’s History Museum, features a specially produced video and exhibition which tell the story of the role railways played during the Great War and how several Remembrance engines were built as a memorial to the employees of Railway Companies who gave their lives during the Great War.
