Britain’s leading family-owned lubricants manufacturer, Morris Lubricants, is backing an exciting £1.75 million project to build a new national memorial engine.
The Shrewsbury-based company, the market leader in steam heritage lubricants, is enthusiastically supporting the project to build an LMS-Patriot Class steam locomotive to the original Sir Henry Fowler parallel boiler design, capable of running on the mainline.
The project team hope to complete the 81 tonne engine, named 'The Unknown Warrior', in time for the 100th anniversary of the Great War Armistice in 2018.
A minute’s silence was held at Tyseley Loco Works at 11.00am today to mark Remembrance Day and to remember all of the Railway Employees who lost their lives fighting in The Great War over 100 Years ago, WW11 and in subsequent wars. Railway employees from locomotive sheds such as Tyseley near Birmingham gave up their jobs on the Railways to fight for their country, many of whom never returned.
The LMS-Patriot Project, the charitable organisation that is building the new National Memorial Engine, is keeping their memory alive by building a brand new ’Patriot’ Class steam locomotive ’The Unknown Warrior’.
'The Unknown Warrior' is expected to bring in the crowds at Barrow Hill roundhouse, near Chesterfield for the three day LMS Gala of the year - 'Ticket to Ride'. Starting on Friday 25th September and running until Sunday 27th September, visitors to the Gala will be able to view the latest progress of 'The Unknown Warrior'.
The LMS-Patriot Company, the charitable Project that is building the new Royal British Legion Endorsed National Memorial Engine ‘The Unknown Warrior', is pleased to announce its intention to build a new Fowler 2-6-4T once 45551 'The Unknown Warrior' is up and running.
