Major Sponsorship Deal Announced for the Tender for 'The Unknown Warrior'

The LMS-Patriot Company, the charitable project which is constructing new build LMS Patriot 4-6-0 ‘The Unknown Warrior', is delighted to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Rowlescourt Engineering Ltd. of Alfreton, Derbyshire who will be refurbishing the frames and building a new tank for the ‘Fowler' tender for ‘The Unknown Warrior'. The extremely generous terms of this agreement will require the project to pay only for the materials, estimated at around £10,000 and Rowlescourt Engineering will provide all the labour required for the construction of the tender, for which most parts including refurbished wheelsets and springs already exist.

'The Unknown Warrior' at the Great Dorset Steam Fair Great War 100th Anniversary Commemoration

Crowds of visitors to the five day Great Dorset Steam Fair flocked to see 'The Unknown Warrior' which was exhibited as part of the 100th anniversary commemoration of the start of The Great War in 1914. This year a display of special vehicles including a Sopwith Pup bi-plane that would have seen action 100 years ago were displayed in a special area of the Steam Fair, which ran from 27th-31st August, next to a specially recreated area of trenches that showed the harsh conditions of trench warfare.

100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War

Today the LMS-Patriot Project is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War. The charitable Project is building a new 'Patriot' class steam memorial engine - 'The Unknown Warrior' - which is dedicated to the fallen from The Great War and all subsequent wars.

New Steam Memorial Engine ‘The Unknown Warrior’ to be exhibited at The Great Dorset Steam Fair

The LMS-Patriot Project, the charitable group who are building a new steam memorial engine ‘The Unknown Warrior’ will be exhibiting the partially complete locomotive at The Great Dorset Steam Fair from 27th – 31st August.

This year marks 100 years since the outbreak of The Great War in 1914. To commemorate this anniversary, The Great Dorset Steam Fair will have a number of special exhibitions, including steam engines, trucks, motorcycles, cars and military vehicles that were used in the war effort in Britain and France.  Central to the centenary anniversary exhibition, will be the new steam locomotive ‘The Unknown Warrior’ which is currently under construction. 

See 'The Unknown Warrior' at Tyseley Summer Open Weekend

Visitors to Tyseley Summer Open Weekend on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July will be able to see the latest progress with 'The Unknown Warrior'. The new Patriot will be making its first public appearance since the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition, last November.
