Fundraising push for 'The Unknown Warrior'

The front of 'The Unknown Warrior' appeared on the front cover of Steam Railway magazine (issue 418) which was published on 16th August. This was the first time that the front of a 'Patriot' had been seen since 1963 and was part of a general appeal to raise £150,000 to complete the bottom end. A new fundraising leaflet was also inserted in every copy of Steam Railway magazine.

Members' Day

The third Members' Day took place at the Llangollen Railway on the 15th June. Around 190 Members attended the day and travelled behind specially chartered Black 5 number 44806, which did three round trips to Carrog. Lunch was served on the middle train of the day when all Members took the opportunity to see the beautiful Dee Valley on the way to Carrog.

Fifth Anniversary of Launch of Project

This month marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Project at the Llangollen Railway. Five years on from the launch we had our sales stand at the Llangollen Spring Gala, which featured the Railmotor and autocoach as the stars of the gala.

To mark the anniversary the Project is appealing to Members and supporters to support the Boiler and Cylinder Appeals so that the tremendous rate of progress can continue.

Cylinder Appeal Launched for ‘The Unknown Warrior’

The LMS-Patriot Project, the charitable group who are building the Royal British Legion endorsed National Memorial Engine ‘The Unknown Warrior’ – has launched a £50,000 appeal for the cylinders. The appeal has been launched as a result of the discovery of a pattern maker – Precision Patterns of Oldbury who can make polystyrene patterns at a fraction of the cost of traditional wooden patterns. This will result in a significant saving in the overall costs of building the new ‘Patriot’ class 4-6-0 steam locomotive ‘The Unknown Warrior’.

Morris Lubricants Supports New ‘Patriot’ Class Steam Locomotive ‘The Unknown Warrior’

Britain’s leading family-owned, independent oil blenders and marketers, Morris Lubricants, is throwing its weight behind an exciting £1.5 million project to build a new 'Patriot' steam locomotive.

The Shrewsbury-based company, which is the market leader in steam heritage lubricants, is enthusiastically supporting the project to build a locomotive to the original Sir Henry Fowler parallel boiler design, capable of running on the mainline.

The project team hope to complete the new national memorial engine, named 'The Unknown Warrior', in time for the 100th anniversary of the Armistice in 2018.
