100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War
Today the LMS-Patriot Project is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War. The charitable Project is building a new 'Patriot' class steam memorial engine - 'The Unknown Warrior' - which is dedicated to the fallen from The Great War and all subsequent wars.
Later this month the partially complete engine will be displayed at The Great Dorset Steam Fair, which this year is holding special WW1 commemorations at the 5 day event which runs from Wednesday 27th to Sunday 31st August.
The Royal British Legion endorsed National Memorial Engine, 'The Unknown Warrior', is expected to be complete and in steam by 2018 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which brought about the end of the Great War, if sufficient funds can be raised.
