Volunteers Help Paint 'The Unknown Warrior'
LMS-Patriot Project members and volunteers have been preparing and painting the frames and driving wheels at Llangollen and Tyseley Works respectively.
During October and November volunteers have been working to needlegun, prime and undercoat the frames - these included Members David Hughes, Mike Dunn, Godfrey Hall, and Tom Peacock.
A second volunteer team including Andrew Laws, David Hancox, Kevin West, Robert Wells, Gavin Shell and Marc Titley wire wheeled, rubbed and painted the 6 driving wheels and the 2 plain and crank axle over 4 days at Tyseley Loco Works. However, during the second week, the ambient temperature dropped significantly and the volunteer painters were only able to get the first coat on the three axles.
Thanks to Bob Meanley who kindly supplied the vermillion paint at Tyseley and to Bromborough Paints who kindly sponsored all the other paint for 'The Unknown Warrior' frames and driving wheels. The new 'Patriot' is being prepared for the National Memorial Arboretum visit and Warley National Model Railway Exhibition during November.
